Centennial Year Church Events

October 29, 2005 - On a Fall Saturday evening after Vespers, the South River R Club (Fellowship of Orthodox Christians in America) held its third annual Oktoberfest Event in the Church Hall of SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church. Before the evening proper began with food, music, and dancing, those assembled were greeted by Rev. David F. Garretson, Rector of SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church. After his greeting to all assembled at Octoberfest, Rev. Garretson led the guests in the Lord's Prayer. The following photoreport shows scenes from the evening of music, food, fellowship, and fun.

Above, the tables were decorated with festively themed items appropriate to an Oktoberfest Event. Below left, the Shaluhas check the German beer that they made for the guests. Below right, Carol Deerson begins her work in the kitchen making potato pancakes.

Above left, David Kaminsky puts his carving skills to work in the kitchen while, above right, Harry Meade sells liquid refreshment. Below are photos of some of the foods which were available at the meal.

Above left are Barbara Kaminsky and Janice Meade in the kitchen with plenty of time until the meal. Above right, the pace picks up a bit as dinnertime approaches. Below left, the activity in the kitchen becomes frenetic just a few minutes before the guests expect to eat their meal.

Above right and below left, Senior R Club members Kristy Kaminsky and Kyra Shaluha serve the guests a variety of freshly-prepared German foods.

Above left, the line for the buffet-style food service was long but moved quickly. Above right, six members of the Senior R Club took time out from the hustle and bustle of food preparation and delivery to compose themselves nicely for this photo.

The two photos above show our parishioners enjoying themselves at the Oktoberfest.

Above, a three-piece band consisting of a keyboardist/accordionist, a saxophonist/clarinetist/flutist, and a percussionist, performed festive tunes for the guests for much of the evening.

Above right, the band takes a break to have a German meal. Below, classically-trained ballroom dancers showed up again this year. They entertained the guests with their considerable dancing talent.

Above, everyone on the dance floor had a pleasant evening. Below, Janice Meade took little coaxing to pose for this photo! Thanks, Janice, for trying on the latest Fall fashion in women's hats and for allowing this photo to be published! The Fourth Annual Oktoberfest Event is now less than one year away!
